Change of Pace
Anyone who follows my Twitter will know first hand I sleep very little. It is not by choice either I physically struggle with sleeping. I have endless bags of energy and a mind that seemingly never stops ticking over. Of late I have decided that there has to be something wrong with me and promptly convinced myself a change of scenery was required. I needed a valid excuse to finally visit the rest of Europe. I promptly decided to visit the city of Venice! That is in Italy for the geographically challenged.
I’m pleased to report so far I have been sleeping a lot, naturally not by force but I have been so relaxed that I now realise my insomnia was born of internal stress caused by over thinking my direction in life. Ladies if you hit me with the ‘Think Like A Man’ question be prepared for a feature length movie in response! I’m all about my short and long term goals (try me). What I have learnt is sometimes you have to improvise and let certain things come to you. I am equally as creative at home but it feels more organic here.
The only way I can describe this accurately is through an analogy (apologies in advance if it makes no sense to you). It’s like lifting really heavy weights; you can use brute strength to will the bar up and down but with great technique and breathing properly you can economically perform the same feat. I take back my earlier preface that was an excellent explanation (bravado).
So if you are reading this and you too have problems sleeping I would suggest a change of scenery ideally to somewhere with a slower pace than you are used to but then again what suits me may not necessarily suit you so trial and error to be certain.
If you are guilty of over thinking try doing absolutely nothing the first day of holiday it is good for adjusting to different time zones as well as being a kind of mental reset. After that it is important to experience the outdoors walking, talking to people, riding, sailing, swimming whatever floats your boat. It may also be an idea to diary your adventure as expressing your inner voice is always good (providing you are not a serial killer in which case find the nearest mental facility).
I would like to thank you for reading and allowing me to share this with you. I will give a review of the city in my subsequent posts don’t worry I will let you know all about Venice.
