They Just Don’t Make Them Like They Used To:

Nostalgia from days past…

Written Mirror Ltd

Hello!

Welcome back to Written Mirror regular readers, greetings to the first timers. It’s really so nice to have you all on board. The long weekend has passed by quite quickly. I sincerely hope everyone is feeling suitably refreshed. Please be sure to pay keen attention all the way to the end of this article as there is a competition I’d like to make you aware of, including details on how to enter. Best of luck!

They Just Don't Make Them Like They Used To...

May the odds forever be in your favour!

Nostalgic Times

Maybe it’s the time of the year, maybe it’s the conversations that I’ve had recently; I’ve found myself in the mood for nostalgia. Old school games, comics, clothes, watches, sneakers and movies, you name it. I recently re-watched The Goonies, The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for heavens sake (Still great!). The weather is improving and those good old Chuck Taylor’s can finally see the light of day again…

They Just Don't Make Them Like They Used To...

Technically this should’ve been called back from the past… Although it doesn’t have quite the same ring to it…

Conversations?

With regards to the conversations I’ve had recently. We looked back on everything from music to animation (Dragonball Z vs Dragonball Super) and anything in between. It really left an impression on me. It had me thinking, have things really gotten better? Mobile phones have enough technology to power an old space shuttle. Think about that! It’s a literal super computer in your pocket. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen on returning to blowing cartridges, dead steering vehicles, 56K Modems, developing film and Nokia 3310’s; but where has all this innovation taken us? Seriously?

The pressure to get it right in one picture…

Unbreakable

Speaking of the 3310 and space travel, that phone was the Millennium Falcon of mobiles. Could you break that thing? Now all you need to render your smartphone useless is to dare to update your firmware (Apple I’m looking at you!). We could definitely use some added durability in modern technology. Think of the resources being wasted continuously churning out fragile products. Everything is about money these days. Were we just ignorant to this fact all along?

They actually tried to remake the Nokia 3310 ROFLMAO…

The Clothes!

Clothes were stylish but durable. Sure you had a few shockers in there, but the modern football jersey for example, is as expensive as they come, only not half as durable or timeless in its design.

Salute To The OG Football Shirts

Oh how I miss those old football shirts. You could flick your collar up like Cantona, someone could tug at it without tearing it, and of course it wouldn’t be glued to your skin by the smallest amount of perspiration. Maybe they made the tops that tight to stop celebrations where you’d flick it off and do a Giggs

The badges were pronounced, probably and most likely sewn by hand. You put your hand on the crest of your team and you can feel something. There is a reason players kissed badges. It was their heart on display for the fans. There’s no embroidered badge now. It’s printed into the jersey. My word, football has become sterile. They just don’t make them like they used to…

What Now?

What to do now? Why not go back to the things that brought us so much happiness before? Throw on some Air Force ones, play some Super Nintendo, wear those Aviators they told you were out of style, and finally, grab your favourite old school football kit. Granted it might not fit, so why not get a new retro kit? That was not supposed to rhyme, but so what it does, is that a crime?

Not quite back to the future, but it’s certainly back to what’s great…

It’s inexpensive and it’s definitely going to leave a positive impression. No more being clones of everyone else. You were made to be different. – JM

Not everything which is new is better. You’ve always felt this deep down. It’s time to stop resisting that feeling. Why not check out some retro footballing kits from both clubs and international teams. Some examples include: Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United/City and European teams like AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona. There are also retro jerseys from Italy, Brazil, England, Argentina, Germany and Holland to name a few. Those retro Brazil shirts are minimalistic brilliance!
